Is there a discount on the in-app upgrade to Pro too?
(I just bought the standard version, and I like it so much that I want to upgrade)
is upgrading to pro version still $4.99?
2.99+4.99=7.98
7.98>6.99
still cost more to upgrade.
Yes, for the moment, that is true. We decided that a sale on the in-app purchase is less effective because it isn’t as easy to spot in the store and because it doesn’t have an icon that we can plaster our pretty holiday ribbon onto.
But in fact, the two prices don’t add up exactly in all currencies anyway. We set the price in US dollars, and Apple converts to other currencies. In some currencies, it just happens that Tier 5 plus Tier 5 is not equal to Tier 10.
And besides, it’s pretty normal to see an upgrade price exceed the sum of the base price and the full-featured price. Example:
Photoshop CS 4: $999
CS 4 Production Premium: $1,699
Upgrade from Photoshop CS 4 to CS 4 Production Premium: $1,099
So if you upgrade to the Production suite, it costs an extra $400.
Makes the extra dollar during this brief sale seem pretty cheap, doesn’t it?
Cheers (and Happy Holidays)!
Dave
last night, i buy 2 license of the 2.99 version for me & my wife, but your web site compare feature no specify the FTP transfer function, so i want upgrade to pro version immediate, but the price is 4.99, difference 1.00, not more equitable
Re: Upgrade
A dollar extra for upgrade versus what it would cost to buy the pro from the start is no big deal, but as I recall there was no Pro version on offer when I made my purchase of the only version available.
It strikes me as rather mean spirited to charge an early supporter of your efforts more than you charge a latecomer. If you think that’s good business, I guess it’s your business, but its likely to cost you a lot of good will in the short run, and perhaps in the long run as well.
I think you’ve done a good job of improving you product since its introduction, but I just don’t understand your pricing policy.
Andy, please see my comments above about the sale pricing. And please realize that this is just a brief sale. The regular prices are still US$4.99 and 9.99 with a 4.99 upgrade price. So actually it is a penny cheaper to buy Air Sharing and upgrade than to buy Pro, normally.
This is just a holiday sale. We don’t have an effective means to promote a sale on the upgrade so we have just lowered the prices on the apps and not the upgrade.
I understand that one unintended consequence of ANY sale is that some people will feel cheated, not because they are paying more, but because some others are enjoying a benefit that does not apply to them. If walmart has a sale on women’s clothing, some men will complain.
That said, I hear you. We will think twice before offering sale prices in the future. Thanks for the feedback and have a happy new year.
Dave
I was going to purchase and found out the sale ended today. Is there anyway to extend the sale for a couple more days? I’m sure a lot of people would like to take advantage of the sale if they know the end date in advance.
I purchased the regular version with the upgrade but also got charged for the air pro. Is there a way to get a refund as it’s the same program?
Jim, it sounds like you did the upgrade and then purchased the Pro version. I’m not sure how accommodating Apple is about refunding accidental purchases, but if you want to pursue that, look for the itemized invoice email you received from Apple, and click the “Report a Problem” link next to Air Sharing Pro.
When are you going to have another sale? I missed this one. Bad for me
Sorry about the slow response; you wouldn’t believe the vast volumes of spam robot-generated messages we’re getting lately!
Anyway, good news on that… we just lowered the price on Air Sharing to US $2.99.
